The ‘Black Irish’ aren’t the face of the future their the ‘face of the long distant past’, the original inhabitants of Ireland well before the Celts arrived their 500BC had dark-brown to black hair, blue or green eyes and white Caucasian complexion, it’s the Celts whom had red and mixed blondish type hair colors and whom brought more brown eye colors with them, because of the remoteness of some regions of Ireland mixing didn’t occur with the Celts and hence today some Irish or people of Irish decent still have dark-brown to black hair color, Pierce Brosnan is an example of that as is my own family whom still have the black hair and blue eyes, red hair in Ireland today only amounts to approx 9 – 10% of the total population, the most common hair color is ‘dark-brown’ to black depending on what County you go to and around 45% of the Irish have blue eyes, up until the 1950’s only 0.5% of the Irish had brown eyes hence their pure racial genetic background. These original indigenous people of Ireland where living their up to 10,000 years before the Celts ever arrived, there is even speculation that the ice-age that covered Europe didn’t completely cover Ireland so the figure of 10,00BC is most probably a conservative one. These ‘Black Irish’ being the original indigenous people of Ireland where building tomb pyramids such as Newgrange a prehistoric tomb in County Meath which is at least five and a half thousand years old well before the pyramids in Egypt, the Celts never had that kind of advanced culture they where simply people whom moved from place to place across Europe from Turkey to Ireland. It’s astounding that many people today don’t know these facts on the original indigenous people of Ireland the beauty of the black hair blue or green eyes and white complexion is rare, the original people of Ireland the ‘Black Irish’.
Hi Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment I appreciate the history lesson and it was very informative. However, I just want to clarify that the photo of the girl Black Irish was not the face of the future of Black Irish but rather it was that all the photos were of children and they are the faces of the future.
My family is black Irish too. My father was a McCoy and my mother a Scottish Frazier. I appreciate the information.
When I was born I had dark brunette hair with green eyes and extremely fair skin with pinkish tones, and I had freckles as a little girl. The names in Ireland that I hail from are Walsh, and Ryan, from County Tipperary North. My people left during the potato famine and ended up in Massachusetts, USA. Just like this photo of this little girl. I had always heard the expression Black Irish, I thought it had to do with dark hair, but I did not know much more than that.
I and my cousins on my mothers side have that distinctive black hair and blue eyes, yet my daughter has red hair, a gene carried by myself and my husband, who is of viking descent.
My father came from the Irish speaking west, yet my cousins look Nordic with blonde hair, blue eyes and olive skin. I M regularly mistaken for Spanish/Italian/French and because I speak Spanish fluently, I can fly under the radar when in Spain and South America
Aa to racial.background?” I find myself u comfortable with such language S it is scientifically difficult to establish. Pure racial heritage as a concept leads to sticky ground Nd is probably best avoided.
The Irish uave been stereotyped as red headed, pale skinned for centuries as a form of othering and prejidice in Britain and during mass immigration to the USA from around the time of the Famine (1846 onwards) and it is a view of ourselves we are slowly learning to embrace and cherish. But please, let us avoid talk of racial purity
What about being a blonde and blue-green eyed Spanish girl?lol. But I know my Spanish family are Nothern Spain and Celtiberian. I look like my Scot-Irish mother but I am very Spanish on the inside. 9% Basque as well….
Good information, however, as a writer, you need to learn how to correctly use they’re, there and their.
