THURSDAY’S TOP TEN
I have found a book, well rather Peter had this book squirreled away in the archives of our apartment and when I saw it I knew immediately it was a great source for blog posts. I think I’ll go through the alphabet; so here are 10 crazy-who-ever-heard-of-these words!
- abbey-lubber: a lazy monk pretending to be ascetic; any loafer.
- abscotchalater: one in hiding from the police (slang).
- absquatulate: to leave hurriedly, suddenly, or secretly
- abuccinate: to proclaim, like a fanfare
- abrosia: fasting.
- abulic: pertaining to a lack of will power; also aboulic
- abligurition: extravagance in cooking and serving.
- abigeus: a cattle rustler.
- abbozzo: a rough draft or sketch.
- abacinate: to blind by putting a red-hot copper basin near the eyes.
Now, I mean really, did you know any of those words? OMG we only touched on the A’s as far as “ab” , can you see how far we can go with this???

A Leonardo Da Vinci Abbozzo
I very often am quite abulic with regard to Breyer’s Ice Cream.. just had me some while reading “new words”… to add to my life..
can’t say that I am an abbey-lubber… but there are days that I wish I can just doodle an abbozzo!!!
who said “can’t teach an old broad new tricks” of course in my new life.. I am considering just being an abigeus!!!
as usual i love this blog… I really can
Bre;yer’s Turkey Hill, Bakin & Robbins, Day’s and Nagles’ – the ice cream shops in Ocean Grove, creamsicles, Dairy Queen, OH MY!!!!
These are great. Abbey-lubber is my favourite, I think. Coincidentally, absquatulate was the subject of a short article here recently, which also introduced me to the amazing word goshbustified, meaning “excessively pleased and gratified”. I’m determined to bring it back from obsolescence.
May I first thank you for this tasteful and comprehensive post. I also follow your site, and discuss everything that you post. Thanks!
