AMUSE-BOUCHE du jour
Today Charles Dickens would have been 200 years old. I learned this not in school, didn’t read it in the New York Times. Actually I was looking something up on Google and as you probably know every now and then Google doodles their logo into a commemorative representation of an event. I was surprised to see the drawings of some of Dickens’ favorite characters intertwined to form the word GOOGLE.
Additionally Google posted some historical facts about Charles Dickens and I really liked the opening paragraph so I’m ending my AMUSE-BOUCHE with their beginning.
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness…”
And with those famous words, every secondary schooler across the globe plunged into the world of Charles Dickens. February 7th is the 200th birthday of one of the world’s best-known writers, and some countries in the East are already celebrating the occasion with a Google Doodle.
