I Even Asked Martha!
I don’t have a dishwasher so doing the dishes is done by hand by me in a plastic basin with hot water and Dawn. Silverware first, then glasses, then dishes. I change the water often and rinse everything in hot water.
My husband says I’m washing the dishes in dirty water! He thinks you should wash dishes under running water and doesn’t care about how much water he uses.
My mother washed dishes in a basin: This is how I LIKE doing the dishes.
I sent my question to “Ask Martha” but didn’t get an answer!

This is a blog hop!
I have the opposite problem. I like to wash dishes under running water, and Mr. thinks I’m being wasteful. I always ask, “would you like to do the dishes then?”. Works like a charm.
So. There’s a sink in that photo? Wow. I have a double sink – so I wash in one half and rinse in the other – then I load everything in the dishwasher and run it all again, knowing that the dishwasher will sterilize everything where hand washing will not.
I also do not have a dishwasher. I am blessed that hubbymoose also does dishes. I do mine the way you do yours – hubby not so much, I’d rather eat from my dishes – or yours for that matter. I love your real kitchen scene. 🙂 Been there.
Thanks Barbara, but OMG that’s not my kitchen! It is a great shot though!
I used to wash dishes in a sink full pf water as a kid. Now i just quickly do it under running water….cause i am too lazy to,find the plug!
Dishes can be fun if the end result is a clean counter top. The frustration comes when more keep being added and the drainer has become full.
Im so thankful that I have a teenager that needs money. That is one of her chores. No dishes for me!
I believe that is one of our subconcious reasons for having kids LOL LOL!
