A Matter Of Taste
He loved it, she hated it. Things were going to change around here she thought. No more college dorm room décor. Perhaps some nice yellow curtains would brighten up the den. Moving some furniture around wouldn’t be a bad idea either. Gathering up the piles of discarded newspapers, she hauled them out to the trash barrel. After polishing the furniture and sweeping up the dust bunnies, things looked better already. But, something was still not quite right…
Pulling into the driveway, his heart sank; there was his favorite leather chair! The honeymoon’s over, he thought.

Aw — bless his heart. She obviously had no taste, otherwise she would have kept his nice leather chair. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. You’re a better person than me because I kept thinking I might have tossed it too. LOL
HA! Saying good bye to the last remains of college life. I can only imagine the stories those chairs could tell.
Thank you Tara for commenting on my blog today. Maybe it was the ghosts of those stories rather than the shabby condition of the chair that made her throw it out!
It was done.
The seamless days, the gentle nights.
Done.
Nothing left but stacks of books, a dresser, a bed and a few faded photos.
And the two old chairs.
Well the girls would deal with the books, the dresser a neighbor could use and probably the bed.
The photos would go into a scrapbook already past it’s prime and stuffed beyond what it’s pages could hold.
But the chairs….. Ah , the chairs….
How they had coveted them. Scrimped and saved and done without until finally, finally there was enough to have them!
They held the place of honor in the tiny room they liked to call “the Library”. The books that were read, the stories written, the tears that flowed.
Done.
Done and gone.
Oh well, the curb will serve as Library now.
Good enough for two old forgotten hearts.
Oh well.
This is great. Now if you can cut 30 words we can put into the 100 Word challenge. Check out velvet verbosity.com that’s where the challenge each week originates. I didn’t know creative writing was yet another one of your many talents!
