The government of Egypt may have severed the digital communication between Egypt and the rest of the world, but Egyptians all over the world are standing up in solidarity for their country.  Here in the United States, there were protests and rallies in all the major cities; New York, Washington DC, Los Angeles.

In front of the United Nations, Egyptians and sympathizers gathered in protest over the situation in Cairo. Take a look at these photos, they are the Faces of Protest.

Late again! There are reasons… really!!! Some issues at work are distracting me and keeping me pre-occupied and my husband is ill with a horrific attack of the much-dreaded shingles. God, what a nasty condition that is and he is so much pain.  And another family member underwent serious surgery this past week, and my daughter and family moved into their New York apartment which meant I got to babysit Finley Ray for two-day and two nights which are better known as Movie Night for Finley.  I saw Toy Story and I think this is the 8th showing of Cinderella.  I just love those mice!

Nick and Nora

JUST in case you didn’t already know, I have two cats whose names are Nick and Nora. They are brother and sister and are rescue cats.  We spent a lot of time coming up with a set of names, not too cutsie, not too highbrow (I mean they’re not Persians or Siamese) and eventually Peter and I knew exactly what they should be named.  They are named after Nick and Nora Charles , the martini-drinking couple from the movie series The Thin Man.

Did you happen to notice this????

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I

After the meeting at the start of the film, Lord Voldemort‘s wand switches hands between shots after he takes it out.

Sex and the City 2

The day Carries arrives in New York: June 11, 1986 was Wednesday not a Tuesday.

The A Team (2010)

They are present at Frankfurt, Germany. But with a closer look,  you see a Cathedral on the right side.  The Cathedral and the Central station is located in Cologne, Germanay. They are about 22km apart.

Burke and Hare

The Royal Lyceum Theater referenced in the film, did not exist in 1828 as it was not built until 1883.

The Expendables

Towards the end of the movie, when Steve Austin is on fire during the fight, you can see it is a stunt man wearing a burn suit for a split second.

Letters to Juiliet

In the scene where Juliet is seen walking out of the New Yorker building, her shirt is tucked in in the first shot, untucked in the second shot and in the third is tucked in again.

Paranormal Activity 2

During the last night Martine is working for the Rey family, she is shown saying prayers in the kitchen and the family room.  During that time, the kitchen camera shot shows spices, knives and a chopping board on the counter, but in the next kitchen shot, everything is replaced by a fruit bowl.

Robin Hood

On the cliff top before the battle on the beach, you are treated to a lovely if fleeting glimpse of the 12th Century wind farm turbines.

The Twilight Saga – Eclipse

In the last scene where Edward and Bella are sitting in the sunny field, Edward is not sparkling.

Dear John

John’s staff sergeant military shoulder epaulet markings become upside down in the scene when he and Savannah are having dinner at her house when he comes to see her after his dad died.  In a later shot, shortly after, they are correct.

Ernest Hemingway in Kenya, 1953

Six Word Memoir

The weekly challenge continues…can you describe yourself, your life, your passions, your goals in SIX WORDS?  No more, no less.  I certainly appreciate my readers who rise to this challenge and I love posting their Memoirs. We are unofficially participating in the SIX WORD PROJECT which originated with Smith Magazine.  The hook is that Ernest Hemingway was asked to write a story in just six words; “For Sale: Baby Shoes Never Worn”.

I thought these photos were great – the beauty of nature and the artistry of the camera captured a “Mother Nature Moment” in Central Park.  These photographs were taken near Bethesda Fountain.

FAB FOTO FRIDAY

I know, I know, it’s just soooooo New York! BUT hey Central Park IS New York AND it is a treasure trove for a photographer!  The wildlife alone provides numerous opportunities to capture the habits and habitats of the wild things that inhabit its 843 acres right smack in the middle of New York City.  Of course the animals, birds and flora are only one area of interest to the man with the camera;  There are playgrounds where the City kids can be found frolicking,  the Children’s Zoo, or the Carousel.  Or the tennis courts, basketball courts, roller skating area, bike paths, walking trails, bridle paths and baseball fields where one can snap photos of urban athletes.  There are dozens of statues of iconic figures, an Obelisk which is the oldest public monument in North America, Belvidere Castle, Bethesda Fountain (where you can always find street performers) and the Great Lawn and Strawberry Fields.  NEED I SAY MORE?

The comedy show Seinfeld becomes popular.

Image via Wikipedia

So many of my friends (and me) think Seinfeld was one of the greatest shows EVER on TV.  Jerry and Larry David did genius work in developing the characters over the years and always maintaining a brilliant level of comedy.  The beauty of Seinfeld for me (now that I’m a New Yorker) is that the comedy is being made from the life I lead; the coffee shop, the dry cleaners, the Soup Nazi, rental cars, parking problems, going to Queens, oh it’s all so familiar!!  Yada yada, yada…

  1. “According to most studies, people’s number one fear is public speaking.  Number two is death.  Death is number two.  Does that sound right? This means to the average person who goes to a funeral, you’re better off being in the casket than doing the eulogy.”
  2. “Sometimes the road less traveled is less traveled for a reason.”
  3. “Why do they call it a “building”? It looks like they’re finished. Why isn’t it a “built”?
  4. “My parents didn’t want to move to Florida, but they turned sixty, and that’s the law.”
  5. “See, the thing of it is, there’s a lot of ugly people out there walking around but they don’t know they’re ugly because nobody actually tells them.”
  6. “To me, a lawyer is basically the person that knows the rules of the country. We’re all throwing the dice, playing the game, moving our pieces around the board, but if there is a problem the lawyer is the only person who has read the inside of the top of the box.”
  7. “Men don’t care what’s on TV. They only care what else is on TV.”
  8. “I can’t go to a bad movie by myself. What, am I gonna make sarcastic remarks to strangers?”
  9. “It’s the financial equivalent of a complete rectal examination.”
  10. “Do you have any conceivable reason for even getting up in the morning?” “I like to get the Daily News.”

I JUST had to share this article with you.  True to form, the Village Voice consistently features well-written, sometime tongue in cheek, clever articles.  I just LOVE IT and I heart New York!

I just had to laugh, I mean REALLY! My sister-in-law Juanita just called me to tell me how excited she was because she is going to be in the audience of a Glen Beck show.  I had to laugh – as I said, I mean really what can you say when a family member (but NOT blood) actually says to you, ” I love Glen Beck”.  Can you imagine that we were once married to brothers?  I told her to call Tom, my son-in-law. who the last time Tia (as she is known to us) made mention of Glen Beck actually left the room (and it was his house!)

Tia

We love Tia, we really do but think she must be crazy or out of her mind which is probably redundant as she staunchly defends her Republican affiliation.  However, we take enormous satisfaction from the fact that she lives on the Upper West Side, a true hotbed of New York Left Wing Liberals – ta dah!
