November 22, 1963 – John F. Kennedy was assassinated.  Do you believe one lone killer did this?  Really??  This is the 26th installment of the conspiracy theory, COUP D’ETAT.  The trail is leading us to a conspiracy formulated at the highest government levels.  You can read the entire conspiracy theory up to this point by clicking on the category, Conspiracy Theory Wednesday on my home page.

The Policeman’s Pimp – Jack Ruby

From his days as ” Sparky Rubenstein, errand boy for Al Capone, to his ownership of a string of Dallas nightclubs where policemen got preferential  treatment, Ruby was “one of our boys” according to mobster Johnny Roselli, with whom Ruby met twice during the month prior to the assassination.  Other gangster friends of Ruby’s included Joe Civello, Dallas Mafia chief: Barney Baker, teamster president Jimmy Hoffa‘s 370-lb bodyguard; and Dave Yaras, hitman  for Chicago mob boss Sam Giancanna.   Known as the guy who could “fix it” with e the police, Ruby counted ast least 100 Dallas cops among his pals.

Ruby’s self-professed idol was Lewis J. McWillie, a professional gambler who worked at te mob-owned  Tropicana Hotel in Havana.  In 1959, Ruby visited McWillie and the two met with crime boss Santos Trafficante Jr. then in a Cuban prison.  Shortly after Ruby’s return to Dallas, Trafficante was released.  The House Select Committee on Assassination suspected Ruby, acting as a gangland courier, had bought Trafficante’s freedom.  During the six-month period that included his Havana trip, the FBI interviewed Ruby eight times as a “potential criminal informant”.   For Ruby, this was not a first: in 1947 while still in Chicago, he “performed information functions” for the staff of then-Congressman Richard Nixon.

On June 7, 1964, Ruby told the Warren Commission his “life was in danger” – “Gentlemen,” he said, “if you want to hear further testimony, you will have to get me to Washington soon because…I want to tell the truth and I can’t tell it here”.  Before he died, he smuggled two letters out of prison which hint darkly that Lyndon Johnson was behind the conspiracy.

I can’t believe that this is the 23rd week  we have been exploring the unfolding tale, COUP D’ETAT.    The Conspiracy Theory will continue presenting facts, MOST of which I never heard of but then again, when Kennedy was shot, I was a sophomore in high school and was not reading the newspaper or watching the news religiously – although I’m not sure the many groups were ever acknowledged in the press in those days.  The sheer number of dissident and/or anti-Castro, pro-Cuban exile organizations that have been revealed over this many weeks is quite astounding.

DAVID ATLEE PHILLIPS

David Atlee Phillips, a native of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, was a CIA agent specializing in propaganda.  He was on secret CIA assignment in Havana until 1960, was Mexico City covert action chief from 1961-3 (during the time of Oswald’s visit there), and was coordinator of propaganda for the Bay of Pigs invasion and for all the Cuban exile terrorist groups under the CIA umbrella.  One of these groups, Alpha 66, founded by Antonio Veciana, ignored Kennedy’s 1963 ban on terrorist action against Cuba.  Between 1960 and1973, Veciana and his CIA control officer, known to him as “Maurice Bishop“,  met more than 100 times.  Their relationship ended with a $253,000 payment from “Bishop” for past services.  Five months later, Veciana was convicted of drug smuggling.  He claimed he was set up, and suspected that “Bishop” was behind it.

In 1976, Veciana told investigators that in September, 1963 in Dallas, he had seen “Bishop” talking to a man he later realized was Lee Harvey Oswald.  Veciana added that after Kennedy’s death, “Bishop” had asked him to contact his uncle, a Cuban intelligence officer working in Mexico City, and offer him money to say he had met Oswald there in the fall of 1963.  Congressional investigators, realizing that Phillips’ career dovetailed neatly with “Bishop’s”, arranged a casual meeting between Phillips and Veciana.  Although they didn’t identify easch other, investigators felt the pair was probably lying.

Phillips, who later became CIA Western Hemisphere chief, insisted to his death that he had heard CIA surveillance tapes of the real Oswald in Mexico City, but that they had been “routinely”  destroyed.

Not Every Conspiracy is a Theory!

My friend Gail sent me this cartoon so I thought I would liven up this Wednesday’s installment in the conspiracy theory about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

For 20 weeks, I have been retelling the conspiracy theory known as COUP D’ETAT.  Stay with it, you  will be shocked if you’re not already by what you have read these past many weeks.

CLAY  SHAW

In 1067, New Orleans D. A. Jim Garrison arrested New Orleans businessman Clay Shaw for conspiring with Oswald and the recently deceased David Ferrie to kill John Kennedy.  The ensuing scandal laid bare Shaw’s closeted homosexuality, but although Garrison convinced the jury that Kennedy was the victim of conspiracy. he failed to prove that Shaw was involved with Oswald or Ferrie.  The case hinged on whether Shaw used the alias “Clay Bertrand.”  In 1964, New Orleans lawyer Dean Andrews told the Warren Commission that on November 23,1963, a client named Clay Bertrand asked him to represent Oswald, who had previously visited Andrews’ law office in the company of some Latin “gay kids”.  Andrews, who also represented Maia boss Carlos Marcello, refused to divulge the true identity of his mystery client to Garrison, saying it would be “Bon voyage, Deano” if he did.

In 1977, a CIA document surfaced showing that Shaw, a former OSS colonel, had a long history with the Agency.  Shaw was director of the International Trade Mart in New Orleans, a subsidiary of the Rome-based Centro Mondiale Commerciale.  The CMC was in tun linked to Permindex, a shadowy company with, according to French Intelligence agents, funneled $200,000 to the French Secret Army Organization for a 1962 coup attempt against Charles De Gaulle.  allegedly both Shaw and Schlumberger corporation president Jean DeMeni sat on the board of Permindex. Along with names of prominent European fascists, Shaw’s address book contained the listing: “Lee Odlum, P.O. Box 19106, Dallas, Texas.”  Oswald’s address book contained the same P.O. Box number, with no name attached.

Well we are now in week 19 of the exploration of a n elaborate conspiracy theory  about the assassination of John F. Kennedy.  The title of this theory is COUP D’ETAT and as we get further into it, the title will ring true. Remember every conspiracy is not a theory!!

GENERAL EDWIN WALKER

The “Wanted for Treason” leaflets posted in Dallas on Nov. 21,1963, were produced by an aide to retired General Edwin Walker, who had been removed from command of the Army’s 24th Division in Munich in 1961 for indoctrinating his troops with fascist propaganda.  In 1962 he was arrested and held in a mental hospital on orders  from Attorney General Robert Kennedy for leading a violent mob that tried to keep black student James Meredith from enrolling at the University of Mississippi.  Walker was visited several times in 1962-3 by Jack Ruby.  He was a leader of the John Birch Society and the Minutemen, a paramilitary group that armed and trained anti-Castro Cubans.  Two of his Cuban  contacts were Carlos Bringuier , a fellow director of the Christian Anti-Communist Youth University, and Felipe Vidal, a member of the anti-Castro terrorist group Alpha 66  who later worked in Oliver North’s illegal Contra aid network.

Walker was on a flight from New Orleans to Dallas when Kennedy’s death was announced.  He told fellow passengers they were his alibi.  The next day he phoned a neo-Nazi newspaper in Munich to report that Oswald had tried to kill him the previous April, predating Marina’s mention of this by 10 days.  Later, he posted a sign by his house reading:  “Cuba: Oswald won, Kennedy lost.”  There is no hard evidence that Oswald shot at Walker, but his name and number were in Oswald’s address book, and Oswald had a photo of his house (in which appears 1957 Chevy, possibly Felipe Vidal’s).  A further link between the two is a roll of film shot in 1963 by an acquaintance of Walker, showing the General in his Dallas home and Oswald handing out pro-Castro leaflets in New Orleans.

You can read this theory from the beginning by clicking on the category, Conspiracy Theory Wednesday.

We are in the 18th week of exploring the conspiracy theory of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination.  There are literally millions of Americans that DO NOT BELIEVE Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in this deadly mission.

Lone assassins are on a mission and are proud of their accomplishment – they do not deny their actions.  Lee Harvey Oswald claimed he was innocent.

JAMES HOSTY

The FBI‘s interest in Oswald had begun in June 1960, while he was in the Soviet Union, when a memo from the FBI to the  State Department warned of the “possibility that an impostor is using Oswald’s birth certificate”.  His mother told the FBI that he had taken it with him, but he returned without it, and the document has never surfaced.  When questioned by Ft. Worth FBI agent Fain, Oswald offered to report any contacts with suspicious Soviets.  The FBI’s links to Oswald continued in New Orleans, where at his own request, he was interviewed by Agent  Quigley while under arrest for the street scuffle with Cuban exile Carlos Bringuier.  He was released shortly after paying a ten-dollar fine.  Guy Banister, with whom Oswald worked, was an ex-FBI agent said by some to have been secretly working for the FBI’s counter intelligence Division 5.

An hour after Oswald’s arrest, James Hosty, the Dallas FBI agent who monitored local Cuban-exile activities, burst into Police Headquarters with the news that Oswald was a “communist…capable of committing the assassination…”.  Though Hosty knew where Oswald worked, he had not warned the Secret Service or Dallas Police of the presence of this “dangerous” man along the motorcade route.  Strangely, Hosty’s name and phone number were found in Oswald’s address book; Texas justice officials alleged to the Warren Commission that the FBI   $200 a month for over a year as “Confidential Informant 179”.  In 1975 Hosty said Oswald had brought a note to his office weeks before the assassination asking him to leave Marina alone, but on the order of his superior, Gordon Shanklin , he had  destroyed it immediately after Oswald’s  death.

So here I am about to post the 16th installment of COUP D’ETAT, the conspiracy theory about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and I’m wondering….how many of you all out there are reading these Wednesday posts? Do you have any comments about what you’ve read so far?  I know many of you are way too young to know anything about this except for what you may have read or heard in a history class (uh oh I just dated myself even MORE) uh, I mean CIVICS class.  So what do you think? Please comment and if you don’t want to be public, then send your thoughts to pbenjaytoo@gmail.com

TOO MANY OSWALDS

While Oswald was supposedly en route to Mexico, a strange incident occurred at the Dallas home of Cuban exile Sylvia Odio.  She was visited by three anti-Castro activists, two Latin men, and an American introduced as Leon Oswald.  A few days later one of the Latins told her over the telephone that Leon Oswald thought the  Cubans had no guts and should shoot President Kennedy.  When Miss Odio saw pictures of Lee Oswald after the assassination she was sure he had been one of her visitors.  Though Odio was too scared to report the incident, a friend who told Odio’s story to the FBI also claimed that Oswald had been seen at two Cuban exile meetings that were addressed by General Edwin Walker.

An Oswald “double” was clearly at work in Dallas during the 7 weeks Oswald lived there prior to the assassination.  On Nov. 23, the FBI received a report that “Lee Oswald” test-drove a car two weeks earlier, speeding the demo at 80 mph, claiming he would have a “lot of money in the next two or three weeks ” and mumbling something about “going back to Russia where they treat workers like men”.  The real Lee Oswald id not know how to drive.  On Nov. 24, Dallas police found a gun shop receipt in Oswald’s name for mounting a telescopic sight on a Mnnlicher-Carcano rifle.  Oswald’s had come with a sight.  A day after having retrieved the rifle, “Oswald” had fgone to a firing range and drawn attention to himself with obnoxious behavior.  A month earlier he was seen firing a rifle on private property in the company of two other men, one of whom was “Latin, perhaps Cuban”.  The landowner have a shell to the FBI, who later said it had not been fired from Oswald’s rifle.

This is the 15th installment of a conspiracy theory of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.  If you believe Lee Harvey Oswald was the sold killer of our young president, JFK, read on and catch up from the beginning by searching the Conspiracy Theory Wednesday category.

“OSWALD” IN MEXICO

Oswald left New Orleans on September 26, 1963, and traveled by bus to Mexico City.  Passengers remembered the man who said he was going to Havana, was quite open about his leftist beliefs and conversed with an older man who spoke with an English accent.  The latter was identified by the FBI as Albert Osborne, alias John Bowen.  FBI records from 1942 described Osborne as a fervent Nazi supporter. A member of the fanatical anti-communist American Council of Christian Churches, he ran a missionary school for orphans in Puebla, Mexico, that allegedly served as a cover for training marksmen.

Oswald registered at a Mexico City hotel frequented by anti- Castro Cuban exiles, but his activities over the next few days are cloudy.  The CIA later reported that Oswald visited the Cuban and Soviet embassies seeking a Cuban visa.  CIA surveillance photos and tapes from bugs inside the embassies were sent to the FBI on the evening of November 22.  They were of someone else (still unidentified), and the CIA has never released any photos or tapes of the real Oswald at either embassy, though 12 pictures of the impostor were made public.   The purpose of Oswald’s trip to Mexico City may have been revealed by the CIA in a memo sent to the FBI ten days before he left.  It read: “[The CIA is] giving some consideration to countering the activities of [the Fair Play for Cuba Committee] in foreign countries…CIA is also giving some thought to planting deceptive information which might embarrass the Committee in areas where it does have some support.” The House Select Committee on Assassinations sealed for 50 years its 265-page report entitled “Lee Harvey Oswald”, the CIA, and Mexico City.

David Ferrie

Week 14 of the unraveling mysterious and complex conspiracy theory about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

DAVID FERRIE

The strongest denizen of 544 Camp Street ws former Eastern Airlines pilot, David Ferrie, who, as a contract employee of the CIA, flew dozens of clandestine missions to Cuba around the time of the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion.  A bishop in an obscure sect called Orthodox Old Catholic Church of North America, and a master hypnotist, Ferrie suffered from a rare condition of hairlessness called Alopecia for which he compensated with grotesquely false eyebrows and toupee.  He worked closely with Banister’s anti-Castro operations, one time leading a CIA-staged “raid” (they had the key) on a bunker containing explosives allegedly given o the Schlumberger  Corporation byt he CIA for the ultra-right French Secret Army Organization (OAS) to use in a 1962 coup attempt against French President Charles De Gaulle.  The raid allegedly enabled the CIA to supply Cuban exile terrorists while Kennedy’s ban on such activities was in effect.

That Oswald and Ferrie knew each other is certain.  When Lee was 16 he joined the local Civil Air Patrol unit led by Captain Ferrie (who was discharged from Eastern because of  his homosexual liasions with teen-age boys).  In September 1963, they were seen together at a federally supported black voter registration drive in Clinton, LA.  The evening of Kennedy’s death, Ferrie drove through a thunderstorm to Houston, where he spent hours at a skating rink making and receiving phone calls.  According to a friend, he was to have picked up tow members of a hit team who never showed up.  The FBI questioned Ferrie  a few days later, but the interview was first classified by J. Edgar Hoover and later disappeared.

Just remember, a conspiracy is not always a theory!

For thirteen (13) weeks we have been unraveling a well-known and much ascribed-to conspiracy theory of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.  As I have said before there isn’t a baby boomer alive who doesn’t know where they were or what they were doing when the horrific news that our young President had been shot and killed.   This time in history was the Generation X’s Challenger explosion and Generation Y’s 9/11 WTC.  I mention this because if you are in the latter two categories and think that this theory doesn’t concern you and it’s ancient history anyway – THINK AGAIN!  This theory known as COUP D’ETAT, because in fact it was engineered by others in the government who sought power, is only an example, a lesson of what could and may have already occurred again.  The question is: Do You Believe Everything the Government Tells You?

CONTROL AGENT II – GUY BANNISTER

In April 1963, Oswald began a bewildering 5-month stay in the city of his youth, New Orleans.  There he started and was the only member of a chapter of the pro-Castro Fair Play for Cuba Committee (FPCC) and began passing  out leaflets at various locations.   On August 9 he was arrested after a street scuffle with anti-Castro activist Carlos Bringuier.  A week later, Oswald and Bringuier were joined in a radio debate by Ed Butler, director of the  CIA-backed information Council of the Americas.  Butler “exposed” Oswald’s Soviet defection, smeared the  FPCC as a Kremlin front, and made a “truth tape” of the debate for distribution in Latin America.  Was Oswald really pro-Castro, or was he an agent-provocateur?

One clue is the address stamped on the back of some of Oswald’s FPCC materials: 544 Camp Street.  Other tenants recall Oswald working in an office on the 2nd floor.  Not only was this the former HQ of the Cuban Revolutionary Council, a CIA-created government-in-exile with which Bringuier was involved, it was the address of Guy Banister Associates, a private detective agency fronting o the CIA’s anti-Castro activities in New Orleans.  Guy Banister former head of the FBI’s Chicago office, with ties to Naval Intelligence dating back to WWII, was a member of the John Birch Society and the paramilitary Minutemen, and published racist materials.  Although his files were confiscated shortly after his 1964 death, index cards were found revealing that the subjects of the files included Ammunition and Arms, the CIA, Anti-Soviet Underground, the Civil Rights Program of Kennedy, the International Trade Mart- and the Fair Play for Cuba Committee.
