Conspiracy Theory - Osama was really an American Airlines Pilot

Conspiracy Theory Wednesday

Great timing, that’s what I say… at least for me!  It couldn’t have been better timing; Thank you President O’Bama! I do worry that a Conspiracy Wednesday will come and go and no new conspiracy theory will crop up.  AND then I discovered the Tea Party theories which seem to spring forth like the fountain of youth.  AND NOW!!! It couldn’t have been more than a New York minute after the announcement that U.S. forces had conducted a ground attack on a house where Osama Bin Laden was residing/hiding, that the conspiracy theories burst forth.

Where was the body?  Why did they drop the body in the ocean?  Why doesn’t President O’Bama  release the photos?  How can we be sure that the DNA is really Bin Laden’s? OMG, it just goes on and on.  I’ve saved the best for last;  The raid was arranged so as to insure O’Bama’s re-election.  Wow, you gotta have a LONG memory from now to the next election day.

So which one should we explore? I don’t know that it makes any difference because those that believe it to be true cannot be confused by the facts.  Here are the facts as presented by those that should know and do know as opposed to those who don’t know anything for sure but have no compunction about casting aspersions and veiled falsehoods  taking skepticism to art form.

The body of Osama Bin Laden was washed according to Muslim tradition, wrapped in a white sheet, prayers were said, and as Muslims strive to bury the body as quickly as possible after death to avoid embalming, the body was disposed of at sea.

Sounds reasonable to me.  I am one of those people who kind of wish we could have seen the body- NOT because I’m into gore, BUT because I knew they would never believe anything that could possibly put our President in a good light.  Some of them are claiming the glory of the kill should go to George Bush.  And why I might ask?  He said he didn’t give OBL much thought and he wasn’t that important after all!!! Oh but then that must mean that Osama was killed after all.  Well really you can’t have it both ways.

I hate to give SP any air time at all, so suffice to say she tweeted some disdainful remarks  on Twitter.  Well what can you expect from  such a twit?

Let me end this blog with what I consider to be the quote of the day.  It’s from Ari Fleischer, former press secretary for George W. Bush;

“If you doubt he’s dead, no photo will satisfy. For the rest of us, Navy SEALs don’t miss,” Fleischer wrote on Twitter.

DSC04059 Six-Word Memoir banners

Six Word Banners

Well that’s me and sorry that my six word title had nothing to do with today’s (OK yesterday’s) Six Word Memoir theme which if you recall was about love and relationships (of all kinds).   So first let’s get to those clever gems sent in by some of my readers:

Rich is coming home. Thank goodness! – Susan Celtic Lady

She better be the last one! – Spinny Liberal

I loved. I lost. Leaving Vegas. – Weez

Listen to gut when wavering – Heide

Can’t wait till tomorrow. Maya Thursday! – Anonymous

Second marriage – my best friend forever. – Me

Since last Monday, a couple of other events have occurred;  First off, we had April15th, the dreaded Income Tax Due Day come and go with a blessed 3 day extension, Passover began and Spring showed itself for maybe 2 of the last 7 days.  Here are some Six Word Memoirs reflecting this past week.

Tax day, Ocean Grove, no line! – Heide

No more pancakes. Thank you Passover! – Lauren

Tennis, lunch, read, nap, dinner, bed –Heather

I do think themes are a good way to get you thinking about summing up an experience in just six words, no more, no less.  This week is a continuation of Passover and ends in Easter, not to mention some people are on Spring break.  Let’s try to come up with something along those lines.  AND remember there REALLY IS A SIX WORD PROJECT  online at Smith Magazine.  The editor and publisher ACTUALLY stopped by the blog one Monday and read what we have been doing and encouraged all of you to visit the site and post your own Six Word Memoir.  www.smithmag.net

See you all in the blogasphere.

Seal of New York.

Shame on Peter King!

This post was supposed to be yesterday’s Conspiracy Theory Wednesday and once again I find myself apologizing for being late.  Oh well….

It’s not that there’s any lack of crazy conspiracy theories out there;  I just have to search and read through to see if it this stuff is even readable.  But no problem this week, because of on New York‘s very own U.S. Representative Peter King has raised Islamphobia to a new level of histrionics.  And with that comes a whole slew of way out there conspiracy theories.

Have you heard of the Shari’ah Conspiracy Theory? No, well then you must read this.  If you regularly read this blog I know you’re probably wondering why does she want me to read about another fringe lunatic thought process?  Wellllll…..because every now and then I have to remind myself that these people actually vote and procreate and omg, you have got to know who is out there beyond your own comfort zone of intelligence.  Scary? Yes! But knowledge is power and in order to fight the craziness, you need to know from whence it came.

Welcome to the Shari’ah Conspiracy Theory Industry

I strongly suggest you copy and paste the link and have yourself an enlightening good time reading this.   Here’s a  passage and teaser for you;

“Anti-Muslim diatribe and activity have reached what Marshall Breger, a law professor at Catholic University, an Orthodox Jew and a Republican, has described as a “season of singular national distemper where, for reasons best understood by social psychiatrists, the American people have entered into what can only be described as ‘open season’ on Islam.”  …Alternet.org

There is a cottage industry of anti-Muslim fearmongers among us!

SIX WORD MEMOIR MONDAY

This week the title of the book that I quote every week (except this week) in this Six Word Memoir blog post just seemed perfectly appropriate for me.  Nothing seems to be going not quite what I was planning; the income tax return, the trip home, the diet, this very day, the mortgage escrow payment, and before this day is done, I’m sure I can add a few more.  BUT…that’s not what this post is about.

On the UPSIDE, I received several replies to my desperate plea for some reader response to the eternal question; One Life, Six Words, What’s Yours?  So happy that you responded with your own Six Word Memoirs and here they are:

Waiting for Rod Serling to appear – Weez

So much chaos in the world – Gail

From nothing comes nothing-Exercise works! – Heide

Grandgremlins are wonderful, in small doses – Heather

IRS return done. No extension needed – Me

Unfortunately I don’t have access to the book, Not Quite What I Was Planning today,  so I can’t post any of those wonderful gems from writers both famous and obscure; which brings me full circle to my own not quite what I was planning day.

Why oh why did I ever bring those cookies home?  I know why I bought them, I mean really whoever says, “No, I don’t want to buy your cookies”, “Now scram!”  Okay so I bought not one but three boxes (no accounting for lack of self-discipline).  Then I brought them home from the office last night and wouldn’t you know,  the same thing happened that happened last year!  (there’s no accounting for inability to learn from previous mistakes) – I heard them calling my name!  At first I thought I heard a faint voice in the distance and thought maybe it was someone out in the hall.  But then the voice grew stronger and stronger until it was perfectly clear to me that I was being beckoned!  And well you can guess what happened next, do I really have to admit it?  Nine cookies later, three from each box ( I wanted to be fair to all).

They’re evil.  Yes, Girl Scout Cookies are evil even if they don’t have any trans fats in them.  You might find these previous blogs interesting;  https://pbenjay.wordpress.com/2010/03/22/the-ten-retired-girl-scout-cookies-fans-miss-most-divine and  https://pbenjay.wordpress.com/2010/03/17/girl-scout-cookies-are-evil/ – I think you will have to copy and paste, I couldn’t seem to make the  links live.

I have to get them out of this house! So tomorrow, I’m going to invite my daughter and granddaughter over and as the benevolent Gigi that I am, give them ALL to them (well maybe I’ll keep a few lemon cremes).

Some people think New York City is a lonely place and they couldn’t be more WRONG!  You never have to be alone in this city especially if you live in the East 40’s,  specifically Dag  Hammarskjold Plaza.  There’s always some art installations around the City.  If you think back, I’ve published photos of many.  such as the giant flowers on Park Avenue in the snow,  the fanciful creatures of   Tom Otterness and now there is a veritable crowd of not quite humans and not quite androids and they have taken up residence in this famous plaza near the United Nations.  They seem friendly enough although not great conversationalists!

The "Second Revolution" flag, first ...

There Must Be A Revolution Going On!

CONSPIRACY THEORY WEDNESDAY

Just when you think you’ve heard them all, rest assured you have NOT!  Conspiracy Theory Wednesday is in full swing because the Tea Party Movement is chock full of conspiracy theories.  As long as they spout them, I’ll print them.

This one is a doozy!  Both Democrats and Republicans agreed that Bill Clinton had great charisma and charmed crowds but…hypnotizing ??

I have copied this article from Mother Jones. Dave Gilson,  senior editor at Mother Jones posted this article in April 2009.

The Conspiracy: Barack Obama is not just an unusually eloquent speaker; he is an expert in mass hypnosis (hopenosis?). By tapping into the sinister techniques of neuro-linguistic programming, the president subliminally convinced Americans to elect him—and who knows what he’ll make us do next? Among his “trance induction” tricks: “extra slow speech, rhythm, tonalities, vagueness, visual imagery, metaphor, and raising of emotion.” And his “O” logo was even designed to look like a crystal ball.

The Conspiracy Theorists: The Obama-as-brainwasher-in-chief theory was first presented in an unsigned 67-page document posted on an Arizona libertarian’s website last October. It was picked up by conservative blogs, message boards, and Rush Limbaugh, who told listeners that “a bunch of surgeons and doctors” had diagnosed Obama’s “hypnotic effect.” “The people most susceptible to neuro-linguistic programming are young people and highly educated people,” he explained. “I find it interesting, too, that many Jewish voters are supporting Obama…Maybe it is hypnosis.”

Meanwhile, Back on Earth: We elected a president who uses rhythm, tonality, and visual imagery in his speeches? My God, what have we done? Does that mean that red-staters are immune to his awesome mesmerizing powers? And why can’t he use self-hypnosis to quit smoking?

I think it’s important to inject some humor into our week, don’t you?  Thank the Tea Partiers for this opportunity to laugh out loud at your computer screen.

Traffic sign alerting drivers for Amish Buggie...

AMISH Crossing

I‘ve noticed  a lot of traffic comes to my blog directed to a post I did quite a while ago about bundling;see  https://pbenjay.wordpress.com/2010/06/12/bringing-back-the-bundling-board/ so I thought I should do some research and look deeper into this ancient tradition.

Worldwide Bundling: One of the most fascinating aspects of this subject is that the practice of bundling was not limited to the United States.  I had always associated the term with the Amish and Colonial America.  However, in the book, The Art of Bundling, by Dana Doten, (The  Countryman Press and Farrar & Rinehart, 1938)  there is a paragraph inferring bundling was an early practice in the British Isles and Wales;

“If you are eligible for the Sons or Daughters of the American Revolution you have bundling blood in you. More especially is this true if your forbears (sic) lived north of the Mason -Dixon line, a circumstance which should recompense you for those same ancestors’ failure to provide your line with colored slaves and a “big house before the war.” Because bundling is a proud heritage”.

In another authoritative book on bundling, the:  History of Bundling: Its Origin, Progress and Decline in America, by Henry Reed Stiles, there is a traveler’s account describing the practice of bundling in Wales in 1797.  Stiles comments that this practice was probably limited to the lower class of Welsh society.

In northern Europe, specifically Norway and Sweden, bundling was practiced as a form of courtship and as in Colonial America, long distances led to the practicality of a suitor spending the night before his long journey home.  Swedes referred to the practice of young couples sleeping together before marriage as frieri. In Norway, “night running” was defined as young suitors having to travel quite far to court.  And it wasn’t just Europe;  there is evidence that this practice was part of the cultures in Central Asia and Afghanistan.

Colonial America: In my previous blog, I wrote about the practice of bundling in America;  bundling was both a form of courtship as well as a practical solution to long distance relationships.  It was also a means to earn a bit of money if you rented half a bed. Hotels and Inns were few and far between, so many a household offered to rent half a bed to a traveler for the night.  A traveler might find himself sharing the bed with a young maiden but more likely it would be the head of the household AND there would be a bundling board between them.

Religion to the Rescue: New England and New Amsterdam seemed to be hot beds of bundling, especially Connecticut.  Puritans saw this method of courtship as both convenient and practical.  Bundling fell out of favor in the late 1700’s due primarily to a crusade against the practice led by the evangelical Congregationalist, Jonathan Edwards (1703-1793).  From his pulpit in Northhampton, Massachusetts, Edwards delivered many hell fire and brimstone sermons.  Eventually other preachers joined the crusade and by 1800, bundling had disappeared, at least publicly.

The Amish and Mennonites:  Bed Courtship These two religious sects have their own set of beliefs and practices and what went on in New England had no effect on them.  They continued to bundle through the 19th Century and well into the 20th Century.  Actually, there is evidence that bundling is still used as a form of courtship.  Thaddeus Stevens, a powerful Republican from Pennsylvania once stated that for every case of “bundling” in Lancaster County, there were twenty cases in Vermont. I read an excerpt from a letter written by a Beachy Amish Mennonite woman living in Ohio and she said that bundling was still a practiced form of courtship in her small community.

Bundling was condoned in the Old Testament, if one takes the time to look up the Book of Ruth to prove it; and if it was the custom then among the Jews for “men and women to lie on the same bed, as lovers, without undressing,” then we have little doubt but that our plain friends used the same methods for getting couples into a convivial mood and a convenient embrace.

Harrison Ford bears “Witness”: In the movie, Witness, Harrison Ford spends the night sharing a bed with a beautiful woman. And there it was for all to see – the bundling board!

Finny and Papa Pete

The old glasses in the eye trick sent Finley into spasms of giggles.   The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree because her mother used to crack up every time Peter did this for her at the dinner table.  Generational fun.

Scraping the bowl

One afternoon I had Finley over so we could make brownies together.  She really got into it;  she poured all of the dry ingredients, put the egg in and did some mixing too!

Licking the spoon

Looking at this photo brings back memories of my own childhood.  I remember getting to lick the spoon or beaters after my mother made cookies or a cake.  More generational fun!

"I have to take this call"

I took Finley to Starbucks and she took my blackberry.  We often go together to Starbucks where it’s chocolate milk for her and a grandé Americano for me.
